Today we continue my Top 30 Albums of the Decade list with numbers 20–16. As mentioned before, this is a personal list and I only chose one project per artist.
20. Summertime Shootout
Fabolous — 2015
Best Song: Real One
Summer came during the fall in 2017 when Fabolous dropped his hit mixtape Summertime Sadness in November. It’s a narrative tape that tells the story of the rappers exploits over the course of a single summer. Everything from meeting a girl for a summer fling, to selling drugs, to heartbreak, all with the usual corny touches Fab has become known for.
No two songs on this tape sound the same. The tape opens with the banjo strumming instrumental of For The Summer introducing us to the main theme of the project, all the dumb stuff Fab wants to got into this summer. Later on the tape we hear songs like The Plug, a pretty typical hip hop love song, Vanilla, where Fab is trades bars with Rich Homie Quan about drugs, sex and all the other stuff you assumed they traded bars about.
Real One proves to be the highlight of the tape fairly early on. Jazzy, an R&B singer I have never heard from either before or after this song, delivers a great chorus and a riveting verse at the end of…
